Jill and Jackie made a weekend trip up to New York. They flew out of Atlanta EARLY on Saturday and got to New York about the time we were getting up and going. We spent the rest of the day walking around some of our favorite places: Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Soho, Union Square, and Chelsea. The girls also spent a lot of time shopping while leaving me to sit with the rest of the extra baggage (boyfriends and husbands.) We had dinner at Maroon’s (one of our favorite dinner spots that we always take our out of town guest to.) After dinner, we came back home to have Jill’s birthday pie on the roof of the apartment. We ended the night playing Whoonu © with the addition of Liz our neighbor.
We went to Mosaic Manhattan Church on Sunday morning. The girls then went shopping at Century 21 while I stopped by our local Border’s. Their fun but short trip ended when they left for the airport around 2:00.
Jill and Jackie, we loved spending the weekend with you. Come back anytime!

Yes, this is a little sad, but I can only blame myself. I know that I need to put more content on the site. I want you to like us.
I was impressed that 11 people visited the site last week.

I think it’s time to make my New Year’s resolutions public. So here they are in no particular order:
h4. Daniel’s resolutions
# Read “War and Peace” – I have all year to finish it.
# Ride in a century bike ride (100 miles) – I would rather do this than run a marathon
# Finish the blog posts from Christmas (right Ashley?)
Now, it’s your turn. What are your New Year’s resolutions? Remember, these will be saved for prosperity, and I will bring them up in conversation.

You heard right. Taylor was in NYC before Christmas. And despite being hounded by all the papparazzi, we managed to have a great time. Oh, and Clay Williams was in town too, so he got to tag along… just kidding Clay, you know we love you.
If you are interested in the trip itinerary, it’s all here. Just click on the link below.

Of course it’s 22 outside (10 if you count wind chill) and we live 2 1/2 miles from my office. You might be wondering why I would attempt something that many of you in the South would consider borderline lunacy instead of just taking the subway (the good, old reliable subway.)
Well, because there is no subway today. Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union is on strike. Read more about the whats, whys, and hows here – CNN.com article

Don’t take the title the wrong way. We love this little tree. It is “perfectly shaped” by Ashley standards. And those are hard standards to measure up to if you are a Christmas tree.
PS: For more details, read Ashley’s comment below.

The weather outside is frightful my friends!!!!
We woke up this morning to big beautiful snowflakes!! Central Park looked beautiful on TV and we sat on our couch drinking coffee and watching it snow. Thanks to all our southern family who called to make sure we were watching it snow.
I knew that my winter purchases of gloves, hats, snow boots, coats, etc would pay off! I’m now sitting in my office on the 34th floor…listening to Christmas music…and watching the wintery mixture blanket the city. I can’t even see the Woolworth building, let alone the Empire State building. Daniel will post some pictures later today and keep an eye out for our Christmas tree post.

Our friend April came to visit on Sunday. She’s in town for business, but we managed to steal some of her time. Yes, they are standing in snow.

Let me set the scene: it was a chilly windy Friday night and a toss salad was looking yummy when we heard the sound. It is not abnormal to hear sirens drive by our apartment but tonight they didn’t speed by. Instead, they multiplied to 4! We looked out our windows and saw the firemen looking up but at what??? Was the building on fire…we have our assignments: Daniel the Mac and me the wedding album, tiara and Pinky. I called down to the front desk and they said no alarms were going off in our building and didn’t know why they were here. We ran to the large window next to the elevator and there it was: A FIRE! The 5 story walk up next door’s roof was burning! It sounds worse than it really was because the building is abandoned and about to be torn down for a new hotel. But why were the water hoses?? The swarm of fireman were on the street with their flashlights but still confused where the fire was burning! I called back downstairs to let the doorman know it was on top of the building and not very big. Then moments later came fireman up through the building with extinguishers to put it out. The best part (other than us being safe) was the long ladder that brought more fireman to attack the blaze from above. Thanks to all the FDNY out there that responded!

well, if you don’t, it’s 7. I promise we’ll stop counting off our visitors once we’ve hit the designated limit.
The Mahan’s flew in on Thursday, October 27 for a chilly, Halloween-ish weekend in New York. We all met up for dinner at our – mine and Ashley’s – favorite Jamaican restaurant, Maroon’s. Maroon’s has lots of great southern dishes, wonderful macroni and cheese, the best jerk chicken, grits, etc. Fantastic!
On Friday, we met at another favorite restaurant – Mama Mexico’s. After dinner, we went to see the Producers which now ranks as one of my favorite broadway shows. And I finally get Ashley and Taylor’s inside joke -”your tie is Ah-SKuuu”
Interesting side story here. Marc and Amelia didn’t have in-depth conversations with many New Yorkers excluding Ashley and me. But on Thursday night, we had a fairly long conversation with a video store clerk while we were touring the Village. And then on Friday night after the Producers, we stopped at Dale and Thomas popcorn in Times Square (best popcorn in NYC,) and the guy behind the counter is none other than the video store clerk. I don’t mean someone who looked like the video store clerk… it was the same guy. He and Marc recognized each other. Weird, huh?
On Saturday, we went uptown to take the NBC tour and then took a stroll around Central Park. Here are a couple pictures from Saturday. To see more, you’ll have to join Flickr and let me add you as a Friend. (Our blog isn’t very picture friendly. It sort of blows our the proportions. But they look better on Flickr. I think it’s the page layout…but I’m not sure.)
