We have officially returned from our Christmas trip south in time for New Year’s in New York. I hope that everyone had wonderful and happy holidays. I have a lot of blogging left to do to catch everyone up on our trip home.

Of course it’s 22 outside (10 if you count wind chill) and we live 2 1/2 miles from my office. You might be wondering why I would attempt something that many of you in the South would consider borderline lunacy instead of just taking the subway (the good, old reliable subway.)
Well, because there is no subway today. Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union is on strike. Read more about the whats, whys, and hows here – CNN.com article
our little fat tree

Don’t take the title the wrong way. We love this little tree. It is “perfectly shaped” by Ashley standards. And those are hard standards to measure up to if you are a Christmas tree.

This is just an announcement. I have moved www.nycnortons.com to a new web hosting company, Dreamhost. This means we won’t have any more unexpected outages, and I’m no longer freeloading on a gracious friend. Thanks Shane for letting me host the site on your server for so long.

Hello there friends.
I wanted to welcome you to our site if you’ve never seen it before. FYI, the website address on our Christmas cards was not my idea, but it’s nice to know that people are coming here to find out what’s going on with us.
If this is your first time here, this is our web log. We usually post about our visitors and special New York things we’ve done. And, usually, we accompany these posts with a picture or two. Pretty simple… and maybe a little boring if you don’t know us very well. But the actual stories as told by Ashley are always much more exciting.
Leave us a comment or send us an email. We want to hear from you.

We had a really good snow on Friday morning, big huge snowflakes. This picture doesn’t quite capture the look, but I like it because it’s a picture of our apartment building and the cheesy “TWO” sculpture in front.

The weather outside is frightful my friends!
We woke up this morning to big beautiful snowflakes!! Central Park looked beautiful on TV and we sat on our couch drinking coffee and watching it snow. Thanks to all our southern family who called to make sure we were watching it snow.
I knew that my winter purchases of gloves, hats, snow boots, coats, etc would pay off! Im now sitting in my office on the 34th floorlistening to Christmas musicand watching the wintery mixture blanket the city. I cant even see the Woolworth building, let alone the Empire State building. Daniel will post some pictures later today and keep an eye out for our Christmas tree post.

Our friend April came to visit on Sunday. She’s in town for business, but we managed to steal some of her time. Yes, they are standing in snow.
The Night that Never Was…

Let me set the scene: it was a chilly windy Friday night and a toss salad was looking yummy when we heard the sound. It is not abnormal to hear sirens drive by our apartment but tonight they didnt speed by. Instead, they multiplied to 4! We looked out our windows and saw the firemen looking up but at what??? Was the building on firewe have our assignments: Daniel the Mac and me the wedding album, tiara and Pinky. I called down to the front desk and they said no alarms were going off in our building and didnt know why they were here. We ran to the large window next to the elevator and there it was: A FIRE! The 5 story walk up next doors roof was burning! It sounds worse than it really was because the building is abandoned and about to be torn down for a new hotel. But why were the water hoses?? The swarm of fireman were on the street with their flashlights but still confused where the fire was burning! I called back downstairs to let the doorman know it was on top of the building and not very big. Then moments later came fireman up through the building with extinguishers to put it out. The best part (other than us being safe) was the long ladder that brought more fireman to attack the blaze from above. Thanks to all the FDNY out there that responded!
Thanksgiving

It’s been a busy couple weeks, and I’ve been a slacker about posting. Sorry about that. I added the aquarium post but didn’t write about the rest of our trip home for Thanksgiving. So, here goes.
We flew in pretty late Tuesday evening, and by late I mean we got back to Marietta after midnight late. We went to the aquarium on Wednesday and then had dinner at our favorite Atlanta Mexican restaurant, Sala, with my mom. We then met Taylor and her friends at Don Pablo’s for a quick round of charades where I won best comedic impression of a thug rapper, and then saw “Rent” at Parkway Pointe. That was late night #2. On Thursday, Ashley got up early (before noon, early morning #1) to cook her most requested Thanksgiving dish – apple pie. Memama came over around noon, and we ate Thanksgiving dinner around 3:00. Marc and Amelia came by around 4:00, so that Amelia could have the squash casserole she had been craving all day. (It’s okay to admit it, Amelia.) And Ashley and I left for Newnan around 4:45 for our second Thanksgiving dinner at Jana’s. Jana went all out for Thanksgiving with more than enough to eat for all twelve of us. She even included a chocolate fountain.
We left Newnan around 10:00…Late night #3. On Friday, we did absolutely nothing most of the day and then met up with our good friends Annie and Brenton for dinner and some good quality time at Atlantic Station. We got back a little earlier than the rest of the week, but it was still rather late. I’ll say late night #4. On Saturday, I went to Newnan to spend some more time with my grandparents, Dad, Jana, Spencer, and even Matt for 5 minutes or so. Ashley spent the day with her mom and grandmother. We met back at the Osborne’s around 6:00 to get ready for the UGA/Georgia Tech game. Uncle Jerry Brown came over just in time for delicious nachos. And though Georgia barely edged out Tech, we did come away with a win… late. Late night #5.
I flew out early Sunday morning, and Ashley left for Charlotte on Monday (early mornings #2 and 3.)
